Are you aware of the SSSC Codes of Practice?
I must protect and promote the rights and interest of individuals and carers (1.1 – 1.6)
I must build and maintain the trust and confidence of individuals and carers (2.1 – 2.8)
I must promote the wellbeing and independence of individuals and carers while protecting them, as far as possible, from harm (3.1 – 3.8)
I must recognise that individuals have the right to take risks and will work with them to understand and manage those risks (4.1 – 4.4)
I must be accountable for the quality of my work and take responsibility for maintaining and improving my knowledge and skills (5.1 – 5.12)
I must uphold public trust and confidence (6.1 – 6.7)
The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) Codes of Practice for Social Service Workers and Employers outline the standards of professional conduct and values expected of social service workers and their employees.
Out with the Day Centre Coordinator within Carers Services, PKAVS is not required to be registered with the SSSC, nor employees within PKAVS. This is because it is only our Day Services which is registered with the Care Inspectorate.
Despite this, the Codes of Practice align well to our mission within PKAVS, and the values that we hold within our work. Therefore, we should all aim to hold the Codes of Practice in mind. It is very likely that you will already be working towards them!
The revised Codes of Practice (May, 2024) aim to:
Set clear standards, behaviours and values
Support everyday practice
Reflect the importance of kindness, compassion, and involvement in decision making
Reflect the important of positive relationships as well as maintaining appropriate boundaries

Reflection …
Can you think of examples where you have demonstrated the Codes in your practice?
Are there any Codes you perhaps need to build on or consider more?
